Today's Affirmation: I daily review my goals and take action...

I daily review my goals and take action to achieve quantum leaps of success.

Do you set goals? Do you reach them? If not, why not?

Here’s a story that illustrates the importance of having clearly defined goals:

Mark McCormack in his book “What They Don't Teach You at Harvard Business School” tells of a Harvard study conducted between 1979 and 1989. In 1979, the graduates of the MBA program at Harvard were asked, "Have you set clear, written goals for your future and made plans to accomplish them?"

  • It turned out that only three percent of the graduates had written goals and plans.

  • Thirteen percent had goals, but there were not in writing.

  • Fully eighty-four percent had no specific goals at all, aside from getting out of school and enjoying the summer.

Ten years later, in 1989, the researchers interviewed the members of that class again. They found that:

  • The thirteen percent who had goals that were not in writing were earning, on average, twice as much as the eighty-four percent of students who had no goals at all.

  • The three percent of graduates who had clear, written goals when they left Harvard were earning, on average, ten times as much as the other ninety-seven percent of graduates all together. The only difference between the groups was the clarity of the goals they had for themselves when they graduated.

I practice two steps that have been proven to help me accomplish my goals.

Step #1 – I review my goals daily. My goals are written down of course, and I take a few minutes to read over them. I focus on my top three be, do, and have goals. What do I want to be, do, and have? I close my eyes and visualize what it is like to reach these goals. I create the feelings of how I will feel when I reach my goals. I see myself having already achieved them.

Step #2 – Take action. By taking action I mean taking inspired action. I ask, “What must I do today to reach my goals?” The answer sometimes comes in gentle nudges and hunches that require action. I think of the little steps I can take each day to move me closer to my goals and I take them. I remind myself of the formula: thoughts lead to feelings; feelings lead to actions; and actions lead to results.

Now, begin.

What do you want to be? Write it down.

What do you want to do? Write it down.

What do you want to have? Write it down.

Spend a few minutes every day reviewing the goals you have written down. Then go out an take inspired action. It will be exciting!
