It’s time for a little confession. I have not always been kind and encouraging toward others. My perfectionist personality has a dark side which often revealed itself in criticism and judgment. I was hard on myself when I failed to live up to my expectations. I was hard on others when they failed to live up to my expectations. I spent a lot of time and effort trying to always be right.
But I have been working on that.
Today’s affirmation reminds me that it is important to encourage and praise others. Goethe said, “Correction does much, but encouragement does more.” I have seen encouragement and praise bring a smile to the face of others. I have seen it lift up a depressed spirit. I have offered encouragement and praise to others only to see it bounce back to me with warmth and gratitude.
William Arthur Ward said, “Flatter me, and I may not believe you. Criticize me, and I may not like you. Ignore me, and I may not forgive you. Encourage me, and I will not forget you. Love me and I may be forced to love you.”
Encourage someone today, and they will not forget you.
